A seven-member delegation led by Nepal Automobile Association of Nepal (NADA) Chairman Dhruba Thapa welcomed the newly appointed Director General of the Customs Department Kamal Bhattarai today and presented policy suggestions on customs.During the meeting, Chairman Thapa said that NADA has been believing in clean business and discussed various issues related to customs valuation. At the same time, Chairman Thapa also requested to take necessary initiative to make the customs valuation system based on real and transaction value by declaring the goods in the customs and correct classification of the goods in the customs.Similarly, Vice-Chairman Rajan Babu Shrestha said that some modifications should be made in the categorization of ambulances by the government and requested for a solution as the customs clearance of imported vehicles is also being delayed. Similarly, another Vice-President Sunil Rijal while talking about the problems of importing goods by opening the door, said that the definition of ZC code varies in different customs offices on the same item. Similarly, Vice-President Rijal also requested for resolving the problems caused by low invoicing and unauthorized imports.During the discussion, General Secretary Surendra Upreti informed about the agreement reached between the Customs Department and NADA on July 10, 2073 BS. Similarly, Secretary General Upreti requested for the provision of only 1 percent customs duty on all types of raw materials required to encourage the production of batteries used in all types of vehicles as the potential for battery production in Nepal is increasing. At the end of the discussion, Director General Bhattarai suggested that if some issues need to be amended in the past agreement with the Customs Department, it could be amended with the consent of both the parties. Secretary Vikram Singhania, Co-Treasurer Pankaj Agrawal and Association Secretary Surendra Pradhan were also present at the meeting, said NADA.
